This thread is open to all players. It is the beginning of a multi-part RP in which you and your pony can win special rewards and even "level up". To read the general rules and format of Averri, please see this thread in Thread-Specific Resources. For more information about Averri, please see this thread in Thread-Specific Resources.

The Four Trials of Averri - Trosham's Garden - Parading About the Town

The RP Mode: Practice Round
The RP Run Time: Unknown; Depends upon participation. Approx 10-20 days.

Setting: Trosham's Garden, Vonthor of the Brother Isles
The Garden was built among a place of lush vegetation, but its growth has limited the majority to a few well-tended parks in the bustling city. As a generally-neutral, near-coastal city, it sees a lot of trade traffic, and now has satellite port-hubs to its west. Like any large city, it has areas of wealth and poorer districts, and it is filled with ponies of almost every breed and creed.

Plot Outline: The Annual Procession is a giant celebration held in Trosham's Garden, a neutral territory on the continent of Vonthor, one of the Brother Isles. On top of being one of the largest celebrations in all of Averri - a must-attend for anyone with the means to do so - it is often used by the Aspects to gather followers to their cause. The large influx of strong-minded followers sometimes causes upheaval in the city, but the extra city guards posted throughout tend to be enough to prevent anything truly destructive from happening.

This year the Annual Procession will mark not only its 175th year, but also the 50th anniversary of the induction of Magister Rex to the main council. The old Purrpony Magister will be leaving Illomere - the gathering of buildings the council resides in - and leading the Procession, and to five lucky ponies he sees on his journey, he will be granting a gift from the Vaults of Illomere, a historical archive-of-sorts.

Your Starting Point:

First Hub:

The First Hub of Trosham's Garden, one of the four port Hubs of the city. The main Procession celebration will be starting tomorrow, so the Hub is alive with traffic and trade. Ponies of all breeds, creeds, and statures comingle and rush about in preparation; even were there time to start a confrontation, a number of the Garden's Guardians (or "The G's" as the guardsmen are sometimes known) are posted throughout the Hub to break up any fights. Anyone tossed in jail for infringements is liable to miss the Procession...!

The busiest part of First Hub is easily the main courtyard, a wide circular space at the center of the city, well-cobbled and well-trod as the main road serving the many docks around the city runs straight through the courtyard. A great fountain stands at the middle of the courtyard, a popular meeting place due to its high visibility. All of the businesses are situated here, and vying for ponies' attention; the buildings outside the ring of businesses are all housing. A number of young, enterprising street urchins tend to hang around the courtyard, looking for tourists to bleed of tips in exchange for showing them around and giving them information about First Hub and Trosham's Garden.

Characters You Should Know:
Magister Rex Rexus - The stern-faced Purrpony of few words, who is in his 50th year as Magister. His parents were from Vittorine, but he shows no affiliation to an Aspect.
Magister Aloysius Trottingham - A warm-hearted, fatherly sort of Kirinpony, he sent invitation to Empress Calliome to send a ship of Procession attendees.
Magister Felron of the Stone - This Dragonpony is thin-boned and small-of-stature but full of pep; he sent word to Sodan of the Claw and invited his most talented artisans and entertainers.
Captain Gunnard - Brother to Empress Calliome, it is rumored the purple Pegasuspony is here to discuss something with the Magisters.

Goals

During this RP, your characters should strive to:
- Meet and greet others
- Try not to get in a fight with any factions
- Find room and supplies to prepare for the Procession
- Attend the Procession without causing a fuss

When you make your first post, please include your quick bio. A quick bio is a SMALL picture of your pony (250 pixels or less), its name, rank, and any magic power it has.

The sun was shining, the song of birds was carried from the gardens on a warm wind, and the bustle of happy townsponies echoed off the cobbles in the street across the lawn from the home of Magister Aloysius Trottingham. Aloysius stood on the balcony that overlooked the lawn and took a breath of the fresh air, but still the day of the Procession loomed on the 'morrow. Aloysius had no particular love for Magister Rex Rexus, whose 50th year as Magister was being celebrated this Procession, but that was not what daunted him.

For every day of the last week, he'd awoken to the quiet sobs of his wife, a soft Kirinpony mare named Harmony. She was crying because their daughter, Merrily, would soon be sailing off for the Isle of Simosine, to serve in one of the Empress Calliome's academic houses.

Aloysius had every bit of faith in his daughter's ability to strike out on her own. Harmony did, too, but she was suffering from empty nest syndrome. Aloysius was just afraid of how much worse it would get when Merrily actually left.

Today was the last day of preparation before the Procession. Maybe today he could somehow convince Harmony that everything would be all right. He closed the balcony shutters behind him as he strode back into his dressing room to get an early start on the day.

Merrily Trottingham

Age: Young Adult
Magic: Earth (Weak) - Can turn solid stone to soft clay and soft clay to solid stone.
Items: A stone panflute on a rawhide cord around her neck, a satchel filled with small envelopes of various herbs, and another satchel with money, some rations, a ball of soft clay wrapped in wet cloth, and some clay-working tools.

Bio: Merrily is the daughter of Aloysius Trottingham, one of the longest-standing Magisters of Trosham's Garden. Her family have always been Magisters, as far back as the city's founding, so she has lead a privileged life. Like most young adults, she longs to lead a life outside the small confines of her birth-city, and her parents have given her the permission and means to join the ranks of the Scholars of Salhara, a highly-praised center of learning, on the Isle of Simosine. She will travel there when the ships depart from attending the Procession.

---

While her mother was busy boo-hooing in a sun room on the upper floor, Merrily had taken the opportunity to slip out the front door well before anyone would expect her to even be up and about. She was usually a lazy-boned late riser, but she was far too excited about her upcoming trip to the Isle of Simosine - just because it was anywhere but here! - to continue snoozing. She would need to make it down to the First Hub early if she wanted to see the Empress' fleet sailing in...!

Unfortunately, she had gotten distracted at both a pastry shop and a fresh fruit stand, and by the time she trotted into the main courtyard of First Hub with a half-eaten bearclaw in her mouth, she could see around the corner, already anchored at the docks, the pale teal sails of Empress Calliome's fleet shivering in the breeze.

She didn't see any banners for any of the visiting factions; they were probably still disembarking. She decided to take a seat next to the fountain at the center of the courtyard, and simply pony-watch.

"Hear ye, hear ye! And see ye, too!," an overenthusiastic, gaudily-colored Unicornpony stallion trotted back and forth across the road that led from the east docks to the town center. He had a satchel around his neck that was almost overflowing with paper pamphlets.

"Maps, maps available! Directions! Does anypony need directions?"

"Care for a map, sir?" he approached a nearby pony, then pulled a map from his satchel with a flourish, to hold it up for the pony's inspection. It was well-created and a number of businesses were clearly-marked, as was the Procession route and the best places to witness it from. There were even some instructions on how to sign up to be in the Procession if one was so inclined.

"Compliments of Trosham's Garden," the Unicornpony tipped his horn to the visitor before trotting away. His eyes darted across the road and courtyard, looking for any pony who seemed to look lost or confused.
